Pop Music

Music is the voice that was structured so that it contains rhythm, song and harmony, especially noise generated from devices that produce sounds.
Music is also a universal language that speaks a variety of languages, capable of voice of its creators and reflect the culture of the various parts of the world. For example, without us knowing when we listen to music
foreign language we can not understand, even without us seeing that means most of us know that music or the song contains the meaning of love, heartbreak, sorrow and so on, as well as instrumental music, even without words, there is an aura of its own in it.
Music can also be grouped according to the similarity to one another which is called the music genre. In general, the music can also be grouped according to their purposes, which can be grouped into three major domains, namely, art music, popular music and traditional music.
These days music has become the need of the community at large. Music can also affect a person, as evidenced in the fashion trend, many music lovers who imitate the style of dress of their favorite musicians. Until now there are a lot of music in the community and commonly called popular music. There for a number of music genres in popular music that can be found in various parts of the world because of the nature of the music is almost acceptable to all of them, pop, rock, jazz and others.

Based on the background outlined above, then in writing this paper I will discuss the following issues: 

1.  What understanding of popular music?
2. Any genre of music featured on popular music?
3. What is the history of every genre of music featured on popular music in the world?
4. What is the history of every genre of music featured on popular music in Indonesia?
5. How is the development and one of the leaders of every genre of music featured on popular music in the world?
6. How is the development and one of the leaders of every genre of music featured on the popular Indonesian music?

Based on the problems mentioned above, the author aims to conduct a study, review and discussion of:

1. Definition of popular music.
2. Genre of music contained in popular music.
3. History of every genre of music featured on popular music in the world.
4. History of every genre of music featured on popular music in Indonesia.
5. Development and one of the leaders of every genre of music featured on popular music in the world.
6. Development and one of the leaders of every genre of music featured on popular music in Indonesia.

A. Understanding Popular Music
Popular music is a kind of music which is currently favored by the common people. Music is also a type of music to suit the circumstances of fashion at the moment, so in accordance with the ears of most people.
Popular music refers to one of a number of musical genres that have broad appeal and are usually distributed to a large audience through the music industry. This contrasts with both art music and traditional music, which is normally distributed academically or orally smaller, local audience. Though popular music is sometimes known as pop music, the two terms are not interchangeable. Popular music is a general term for music of all ages that appeal to popular taste, while pop music usually refers to a genre of music that is more specific.
Some of the musical genre that includes such popular music is pop, rock, jazz and so on.      

B. Genre of music featured on popular music
The music genre is a grouping of music according to its resemblance to one another. Here are some genres of music featured on popular music, including:
Music Pop
Pop music is a term originally comes from the abbreviation of "popular", is a musical genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the 1950s, derived from the rock and roll. The terms of popular music and pop music are often used interchangeably, although the former is a description of the popular music (and can include any style), while the latter is a particular genre that contains the quality of the appeal period.
This music has a characteristic, in the use of rhythm that feels free with emphasis on drumming and bass guitar. Typically, the musicians also add to the attractiveness and appreciation of the listener or the audience. Pop music can also be differentiated into pop music kids and adult pop music.

C. Developments Pop

1. Ragtime music in the United States since 1890
   Ragtime music or chopped-Pig, is American music influenced by African-American and European classical music. This music became famous in the mainland United States around 1890 to 1920. The music is a bona fide fast tempo or rhythm with syncopation domination, but there is also a rhythmic rather slow.
   Usually the music is played specifically with piano-style chopped pork, and the pianist and creator of, among others, Scott Joplin (1868-1917), James Scott (1885-1938), and Joseph Lamb (1887-1959).
2. Blues music in the United States since 1895Blues music was born out of African-Americans in the Mississippi Delta peninsula at the end of the XIX century, around 1895 and continues today. 4. Latin American music since 1857
   Creations of the creator at the time with latin influences are among others from George Bizets Hababera of the opera Carmen (1875); Scott Joplin's Mexican Serenade, Solace (1902); Maurice Ravels Rapsodie Espagnole (1907) and Bolero (1928).
   Latin pop music began latin dance known, ie since 1920 as well. Tango Dance became one balroom dance famous in 1920 in the United States and Europe, where the song Tango bertangga minor and melancholic tone, as well as an aggressive step dance. 5. Country Music since 1920Country music often diidentitaskan with cowboy music (cowherd). This music was born in the country recording of violin playing John Carson with the recording of "Little Log Cabin in the Lane" by Okeh Records in 1923. Then the birth records by Columbia in 1924 "Old Familiar Tunes". As known steel guitar entered country in 1922, where Jimmie Tarlton met with Hawaiian guitarist Frank Ferera on the west coast of America.Starting in 1927, for 17 years the Carters recorded some 300 old-time ballads, traditional songs, country songs, etc. Later in the 1930s and 1940s cowboy songs became popular in all the movies Hallywood. And 1939 Boogie-woogie rhythm became famous.Figures of the pop music world one of them is Michael Joseph Jackson usually called Michael Jackson. Born in Gary, Indiana, United States, August 29, 1958. He died in Los Angeles, California, USA, 25 June 2009 at the age of 50 years.He is well-known as the King of Pop and popularized the moonwalk dance movement that has become his trademark. Her album, released in 1982, Thriller is the best-selling album in the world.
